Our summer schools offer GCSE students the chance to experience university life, with taster lectures, laboratory work (including DNA extraction, enzyme assays or forensic science work) and a briefing on the admissions process. These visits include a tour of the Mile End Campus, with the multi-million pound residential Student Village, and the recently refurbished Students’ Union and gym.
Our academic staff are happy to visit schools to talk about science or about studying at Queen Mary.
Topics that we can provide speakers for:
- Are we more than our genes?
- Multicellular bacteria
- Geographic profiling: from serial killers to animal foraging
- Application of DNA technology in the behavioural sciences
- Prion proteins and mad cows
