Project title: Assessment of the effectiveness of photoprotective energy dissipation in plants

Summary: Plants are able to dissipate potentially harmful excess light energy via a process called nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ). This project will focus on the usage of a novel chlorophyll fluorescence-based methodology to assess the effectiveness and limitations of this process. This can be determined by analysing maximum tolerable light intensities, the minimum level of NPQ which can protect plants from damage, and the light intensity at which 100% of photosynthetic reaction centres are damaged.
