We have long-term interests in the custom design and synthesis of novel functional ligand systems, especially those derived from azamacrocyclic ligands, and their metal complexes, especially manganese, for application in a range of projects including the development of novel bleaching catalysts for application in domestic laundry and oxidation catalysis using environmentally benign oxidants, in particular the asymmetric epoxidation of alkenes.
More recently we have become engaged in the development of a number of novel sensor agents, including Zn sensors. This research is supported by trans-Domain COST Action 1304 Zinc-net. We also have interests in the development of novel hydrogels for the detection of proteolytic enzymes and the modification of surfaces using click chemistry (with Steffi Krause from our School of Engineering and Materials Science).
