Project Title: Structure and Function of Ferredoxin C2
Summary: Ferredoxins are proteins involved in photosynthetic electron transport. This project gives attention to highly conserved Fds with a c-terminal extension (FdC2). In contrast to other leaf-type Fds, FdC2 exhibits no photosynthetic electron transfer ability, although genetic work indicates it is essential. The cyanobacteria Synechocystis PCC6803 is used to probe the hypothesis that protein function is related to metal homeostasis using a combination of genetics, biophysics and biochemistry and imaging techniques.
