Project Title: Understanding the mechanism of ubiquitin ligases in host-pathogen interactions
Summary: The IpaH family of novel E3 ligases are Type III secretion virulence effectors and are found in a variety of pathogenic bacteria. They consist of two distinct domains, an N-terminal LRR domain and a C-terminal catalytic domain. The catalytic domain displays ubiquitin ligase activity and is termed Novel E3 Ligase (NEL) domain. The aim of the work is the identification and the characterization of new substrates for Shigella IpaH family effectors.
