Research interests:

Insect genomics

Molecular biology and entomology of disease transmitting mosquitoes related to evolution, adaptation and disease control.

Current work is contributing to:

  • Novel control strategies based on mosquito mass release such as the Sterile Insect Technique
  • Transposable elements, primarily retroposons, their origin, spread and regulation and potential use for population suppression, or as a gene driving mechanism for population replacement
  • Insecticide resistance as a biomarker and use in classical genetic sexing.
  • Biting nuisance outbreaks in British mosquitoes, their potential role in transmission of emerging diseases and as a model for related disease vectors elsewhere
