Biology Activities
Our summer schools offer GCSE students the chance to experience university life, with taster lectures and laboratory work – including DNA extraction, enzyme assays or forensic science work; students will also be briefed about the admissions process. These visits – sometimes half-days, sometimes whole days or even longer – also include a tour of the Mile End Campus, with the new, multi-million pound residential Student Village, and the recently refurbished Students’ Union and gym. Academic staff are also happy to visit schools to talk about science, or about studying at Queen Mary.
List of topics that we can provide speakers
- Are We More Than Our Genes?
- Multicellular bacteria
- Geographic profiling: from serial killers to animal foraging
- Application of DNA technology in the behavioural sciences: molecular ecology
- Prion proteins and mad cows
We also participate in a variety of university-wide outreach activities and university-taster days. For more information please email us on sbcs-admissions@qmul.ac.uk
