How to apply for a place for a research degree
To make an application:
Complete an online application form.
References: You will need to supply academic references from two referees. These can be sent to us in one of the following ways:
1) The referees can give you their references which you can send to us in a sealed envelope, with the referee's signature across the seal.
or
2) The referees can send them directly by post or email to:

We will be unable to process your application until we have received both of your references: therefore, please encourage your referees to respond promptly.
Overseas students
You will be required to demonstrate sufficient English language skills as part of your application if English is not your first language.
Self-funding students:
Before formally applying to Queen Mary, please make contact with a potential supervisor to secure their agreement to supervising you for a research degree.
The research themes of the School can be found on the research group pages, and research interests of individual members of staff can be browsed on their personal pages.
You should contact suitable members of staff, either by letter or email, sending them your CV, a personal statement (1 side of A4), a research proposal (up to 2 pages of A4), transcripts of your degree(s) and the contact details of two academic referees. Please also make it clear how you intend to fund your studies.
