Dr Briefer and Dr McElligott on Countryfile

Published:

Dr Briefer and Dr McElligott’s research into goat intelligence appeared on BBC 1’s Countryfile on Sunday 11th March 2012. Countryfile visited a goat sanctuary near Maidstone, Kent to witness the goats operating a complicated two-step machine in order to reach the food inside it. The same goats were then tested six months later to see if they remember how to complete the original test. Test goat Willow demonstrated intelligence by going straight for the machine and quickly extracting the food, prompting presenter Julia Bradbury to suggest that “next we should try a crossword”. Dr McElligott comments that these findings show people that goats are complex and intelligent, so need the best possible attention and care.
