Seminar Series - Skeptical of solidarity? Observers' responses to high-status group leaders in social justice effort

6 December 2018

Time: 1:00 - 2:00pm
Speaker: Dr Aarti Iyer, University of Sheffield
Venue: Fogg Lecture Theatre, G.E Fogg Building

In this organismal biology and biological and experimental psychology seminar, Dr Aarti Iyer of University of Sheffield will deliver a talk on 'Skeptical of Solidarity? Observers' responses to high-status group leaders in social justice effort'.

Dr Aarti's research investigates responses to such status hierarchies from three perspectives:

  • Investigating the antecedents of individuals’ efforts to challenge inequality and injustice, for instance through political activism and support for government policy
  • Improving organisations’ efforts to achieve social equality through affirmative action and equal opportunity programs
  • Understanding how social identity processes shape disadvantaged group members’ efforts to navigate novel social contexts, with implications for acculturation strategies, self-views, and academic performance.

This seminar is open to all.
